This country was picked by my husband.
For Swiss I made Swiss Steak and a bread called Zopf. This food was nothing like I expected and tasted like nothing I had ever made. however it was amazing! A good dish to make in fall or winter.
Zopf
Ingredients:
1 (.25 ounce)package active dry yeast
1 1/3 cups warm milk (105-115 degrees)
1 egg yolk
2 TBS butter (softened)
3 1/2 cups flour
1 egg white 1 TBS water
In a large bowl dissolve the yeast in the warm milk. Let stand about 10 minutes until creamy. Add the egg yolk, butter, and2 cups of the flour. Stir well to combine. Stir in the remaining flour 1/2 cup at a time mixing well after each addition. When the dough has pulled together turn it out onto a lightly floured surface and knead until smooth and elastic, about 8 minutes. Divide dough into 3 equal parts and roll each into a 14 inch cylinder. Braid the pieces together tucking the ends under a tiny bit to seal. place on lightly greased baking sheet. Cover with a damp cloth and let rise until doubled in size, about 1 hour. Preheat oven to 425 degrees. in a small bowl beat together the egg white and water. Brush the risen loaf with the egg wash and bake in preheated oven for 20 minutes. Pull apart and dip it in your Swiss steak sauce or use butter on it.

Heat oil in a dutch oven over medium heat. Dredge the steak strips in flour. working in batches, place strips in hot oil. Fry until browned on both sides. Remove to a warm plate. When all meat is browned, return meat to dutch oven and stir in onion, mushrooms, salt pepper, gravy mix and stewed tomatoes. Bring to a boil then simmer about 30 minutes. About 20 minutes before steak is finished fill a large pot of water and bring it to a boil. Add pasta and cook until al dente (about 8-10 minutes). Drain and serve Swiss steak over noodles.
We loved this dish. The steak is so tender it almost melts in your mouth. Being a bread maker though I was not fond of the Zopf. Maybe you will feel different. Let me know!
